Back Stage NYC
"He is certainly destined to become one of our most prolific dance creators with his utter dedication and sincerity of purpose. Between Spaces was a triumph for all concerned."
Allan Charlet

The Honolulu Advertiser
"The audience was silent throughout; I was emotionally drained at the end of one of the art's most dramatically compelling creations. Such art! Such emotion! And such economy of both to such great ends!"
Howard Driver

Sarasota Herald Tribune
"By turns attracted and repelled, tender and bristling, passionate and cold, trusting and suspicious, the couple on stage involved the audience completely in this absorbing drama... Soleau has created a dance with great dramatic impact and real originality."
Florence Fisher
Washington Post
"A compellingly expressionistic duet, Between Spaces, to music by Webern, danced with an impressive range of psychological and erotic overtones by its choreographer, company member William Soleau, and Christine Redpath."
Alan Kriegsman

Choreographer's Note: This ballet was created on Christine Redpath and myself while we were dancing with Finis Jhung's Chamber Ballet U.S.A. We performed this duet over 30 times while on tour throughout the United States. Each performance was different and sometimes we changed the ending from one city to the next. What I particularly like about this work is that it is interpreted very differently for each person who sees it. Some see it as a study of a failed relationship; others see it exactly the other way around. Without giving away the ending of the ballet, all I can say is that one of my inspirations came from the classic movie "The Goodbye Girl" when Richard Dreyfuss takes all his possessions and departs on an acting job. Through all the fighting and sparring, his most cherished guitar still sits in the apartment.

Tweleve years after this premiere of "Between Spaces", Christine and I were married.
